Three Ways to Build Your Inner Strength

Feeling disempowered can often make it seem like you have few options in life.  Not only do you appear to have a chronic shortage of possibilities, you’re usually too frightened to move forward and take action even if you do recognize a lucrative opportunity!

Turning disempowerment into empowerment is often as simple as choosing to believe that you are stronger and more resourceful than you think.  Perception is everything!  Even though you may believe that you are stuck and have no options right now doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true.  Such a belief keeps your mind closed to many possibilities, which results in an ongoing cycle of fear-based behavior.

The good news is that you can transform your limiting beliefs and fears by simply changing your perspective.  Here are three easy ways to start:

1)    Defy your limiting beliefs.  Perceptions can be daunting because they seem to be rock-solid truth, but once you begin to examine them you’ll probably find holes in the foundation!  For example, you may have a belief that you’re not talented or efficient, which can limit your potential if you never question that perception.  Once you begin exploring such a belief, you may realize that it’s not true at all!  In fact, it may just be that you’ve never bothered to try to prove that belief wrong, so it did indeed become your truth.  But what if you decided not to believe it anymore?  What if you decided to defy it and move forward anyway?

One of the most empowering things you can do for yourself is develop a habit of defying all of your limiting beliefs and fears.  Why do you believe in their validity?  Have you ever taken action to prove they are groundless?  The more you learn to challenge these perceptions, the more you’ll realize that the only one holding you back all along was you!

2)    Build on your existing strengths.  A constant sense of disempowerment often makes you feel that you are weak and ineffective, but only because you’ve continued to reinforce it for so long!  If you instead get into the habit of building up your belief in your strengths and continue to expand them, you’ll soon begin to realize that you’re stronger than you think.

Encourage yourself through kind words and positive reinforcement as often as you can, and before you know it you’ll be feeling strong and empowered in everything you do.

3)    Build some momentum.  It’s ironic that fear makes you hold back on taking action and consequently makes you feel even more afraid!  You end up stuck in a cycle of wanting to make changes but feeling powerless to do so, and becoming even more disempowered with every passing moment that you hold back.

If you instead begin to take action – despite not feeling very confident – those very actions can help build your inner strength!  Even if you have to start by taking baby steps, come up with one action that you’ve been afraid to take and then do it.  You’ll feel so good about yourself that you’ll be eager to try it again!  And if you do that often enough, you’ll soon realize that there’s truly nothing to fear.
